Interested in joining the lab?

Successful undergraduate student researchers in this lab typically meet the following qualifications:
  • Completed Organic Chemistry I and Physics I
  • Are willing to commit to research for 2 semesters
  • Earning B's or better in most core chemistry, biology, physics, and math classes
  • Are biochemistry or chemistry majors (enthusiastic and molecular-minded biology majors are welcome to apply)
  • Have ~6 hours per week to spend doing research during the semester
  • Are enthusiastic about protein structure and biophysics
  • Are willing to do research that is computationally focused

To apply, please complete the Undergraduate Research Assistant Application and send your completed application to [email protected].

Be proactive! You will get better results if you contact me 1 semester before you hope to start doing research so I can plan accordingly.

Students hoping to begin a research thesis-based Master's degree are recommended to review the following items:
  • Please read our department application information and admission criteria. You cannot be admitted into the Master's program without meeting admission criteria for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
  • If you feel that you would meet the admission criteria, please complete the Graduate Research Assistant Application form and send your completed application to cvanderz@uccs. This form will serve as the basis for discussions about possible research opportunities in the lab.
  • If you have general questions about the graduate program, please contact the Graduate Program Director for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Dr. Carlos Diaz ([email protected]).

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UCCS does not grant PhD degrees.
Post-doctoral positions are exceedingly rare as we are an undergraduate-focused institution.

Please do not inquire about opportunities for PhD students or post-doctoral positions.
